Building a Cure: One Gala, One Leap of Faith

A black circular logo with a gold glitter border, featuring a silhouette of a womans head with a gold ribbon. The text BUILDING A CURE is in gold, with two gold leaves at the bottom.

There comes a moment when you say something out loud… and there’s no turning back.

That’s exactly how this gala started.

I decided I wanted to reconnect with my community—to give back the way I’ve always believed in. Business has been going well, and for the first time in a while, I had the space to focus on something bigger than myself. Something meaningful. Something that could make an impact.

So I said it: “I’m putting together a gala.”

And just like that—it was real.

Now, here’s the thing about me… I’m a Gemini. We get an idea, and we go. We don’t sit around building committees or mapping out perfect plans. We move. We act. We figure it out along the way.

But what I didn’t think about—what you never think about in the beginning—was everything that comes after that decision.

The calls.
The follow-ups.
The donations.
The baskets.
The coordination.
The pressure of making sure people actually show up.

And suddenly, it hits you…

What did I just get myself into?

I remember thinking, “Oh my God… people who do this have full teams. Committees. Staff. What do I have? Maybe one or two friends helping when they can.”

I even asked myself:
Should I back out? Should I cancel this?

But the answer was always no.

Because my faith is bigger.

It’s always been bigger.

I believe deeply that when you step into something with the right intention, God meets you there. He guides you. He makes a way—even when you don’t see one.

So I kept going.

Every day, I pushed forward. I worked mornings, nights—whenever I could. I kept asking, kept building, kept believing. And yes, I was scared. There were moments of real panic.

But I never stopped.

And when the night of the gala came… everything fell into place.

It was beautiful.

Friends and family came together. Stories were shared. People connected. And most importantly, it was all for a cause bigger than any one of us.

That feeling? You can’t buy it.

There’s something powerful about accomplishing something people might call “crazy.” Especially when you did it with faith, determination, and heart.

Because here’s what I truly believe:

One person might not change the entire world overnight…
But you can change someone’s world.

One person at a time.

And that’s exactly where it begins.
